Sleep, dream, love…
Magbé Camara was born in Africa, and later on she relocated to France. Throughout her life, she has always enjoyed sleeping in gorgeous sheets. Ever since she was a little girl in Africa, she fell in love with the Bambara and Dogon people’s traditionally woven fabrics; dense cotton textiles, painstakingly colored with indigo dye, which featured beautiful geometric patterns!
The weavers and their looms were brandished in her memory, as was her own grandmother, Adama, with whom she grew up, in Senegal. A skilful, capable and kind woman, Magbé Camara’s grandma would make her own dyes, in various shades of indigo, ochre and read. Once the color theme had been chosen, the artisan weaver would dye her natural textile using her ancestor’s traditional methods, which had been passed down through generations.
Her early African memories of boiling pots, of the cycle of dyeing and drying the textiles over and over, of the beauty of all of those extraordinary types of fabric, which were reserved for special occasions, inspired Magbé Camara and made her fall in love with high quality fabrics!
When her grandma sadly passed away, Magbé Camara decided to become a luxurious bedding designer, stylist and cloth manufacturer. She appreciates simple beauty, and enjoys discovering and retelling the fabrics’ stories. African woven cotton, Egyptian cotton of the highest quality, woven in percale and satin, or Flanders linen, which are dyed by knowledgeable craftsmen in France and Belgium, are some of the many luxurious materials Magbé uses for her handmade creations.
Steering clear from cheap prints and motifs, Magbé Camara loves creating elegant mixtures of natural fabrics, and she has a soft spot for vibrant, spicy, ethnic colors!
One of her sheets, pillow cases and comforters’ most unusual characteristics are their hidden little pockets, which will definitely help you relay short messages to your loved ones!
Magbé Camara currently sells three collections;
- Teranga, which means ‘hospitality’: especially designed for glamorous hotels or professionals of the hospitality industry.
- Roots: features authentic traditional and ethnic tones.
- Colors: spicy, bold, vibrant colors, a blend to be discovered.
