Zimbabwe: Farayi Simoyi, Nicki Minaj’s Clothing Designer Will Take Part In Zim Fashion Week UK
This year, Zimbabwe Fashion Week UK is going to take place on July 4, at The Crown Banqueting Hall in Birmingham. One of Zimbabwe’s most highly acclaimed fashion designers, Farayi Simoyi, will take part in the event. Farayi has worked with superstar Nicki Minaj in the past, and we expect to be seeing great things from her in the future, as well.
Both successful and budding designers will come together to celebrate fashion in the Zim Fashion Week UK show, and the world will be paying close attention to the creative talent of Zimbabwe’s artists! According to Chiedza Dawn Ziyambe, who is the founder of Zimbabwe Fashion Week UK, ‘Farayi Simoyi was the senior designer for the clothing collection and is excited to present her own designs at Zimbabwe Fashion Week UK. Farayi will be joined by some of the most promising designers currently working in the fashion industry‘.
Farayi Simoyi was born to Zimbabwean parents in London, but she lived in Harare, Zimbabwe, until she was 10 years old. During that time, she fell in love with fashion partly due to her aunt; she owned a lingerie shop and would often give her fabric to play with, in order to create clothes for herself and for her dolls.
She moved to the US when she was 10 years old, to live with her family in West Virginia, and when she grew up she studied Fashion & Design at West Virginia University. Her childhood dreams reawakened and she reclaimed her passion for fashion! Her next aim was to study at the ‘Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti’ in Milan.
She was able to land a job as the senior denim designer for House of Dereon, working for Beyonce and Tina Knowles! Some of her famous clients include Anne Klein, Nine West, Robert Rodriguez and the Nicki Minaj Collection.
