Three Africans Receive Oscar Nominations, Lupita Nyong’o, Chiwetel Ejiofor For ’12 Years A Slave’ & Barkhad Abdi For Captain Phillips’

Early this morning in Beverly Hills, California at the  AMPAS Samuel Goldwyn Theater the 2014 Oscar Nominations were read out.

Africa’s hopefuls, Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o and Nigerian actor Chiwetel Ejiofor got individual nods as Best Supporting actress and Best Actor for ’12 Years of slave’ while Somalian actor Barkhad Abdi receive a Best Supporting actor nod for Captain Philips’.

British director Steve McQueen’s received a personal nomination as a Director for ’12 Years A Slave’ while his movie ’12 Years A Slave’ landed the Best Picture nomination. 

 The 86th and 87th Academy Awards  will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland and broadcast live by ABC in the US on March 2, 2014.
