Katherine-Mary Pichulik describes her handcrafted jewelry brand in her ‘about’ page as a collection that’s inspired by the intimate relationship women have with jewelry, and also by the numerous travels she has been on, by her mother, her grandmother and all the people she has loved. If PICHULIK was a person, she says, she would be a strong, brave woman with a wicked sense of humour, kind and wise eyes that would tell tales of travels through exotic lands. She would smell like jasmine in Johannesburg, and would taste like pomegranates from Granada, or rose syrup from Morocco.
Sounds like a great girl, right? Well, it’s true, PICHULIK is a fantastic collection of bold jewelry, created by a team of brave women – Joyce, Elita, Sarah and Melissa – for other brave women.
Katherine-Mary Pichulik recently launched her latest, called ‘Pietra Terra’, which was inspired by Italy, and Italian perfumes. The designer’s love for Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni and Bernardo Bertolucci also played a major part in the creation of this collection.
The color theme of this beautiful jewelry collection revolves around rich tones of yellow, orange, blue, red and gold. The chunkiness of PICHULIK’s pieces is counter-balanced with fine precious and semi precious stones, such as serpentine, jade, agate and more.
In the past, the designer has collaborated with many other artists; for her Zwazwa collection, Pichulik collaborated with Design Afrika and Dunoon urban weavers, to create a unique line of bags, which was inspired by the art of storytelling through weaving, as well as by its cultural and historical value.
