Another outstanding African is bringing honour to her motherland. Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o will be awarded at the upcoming Hollywood Film Awards which will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California on October 21, 2013.
She will receive the much coveted New Hollywood Award for 2013 for her role in the movie 12 Years a Slave where she played as Patsey, a slave severely maltreated by her cruel master in the mid-19th Century America. In the movie set, Lupita Nyong’o brushed elbows with Hollywood co-stars, bigwigs like Brad Pitt, Alfre Woodard, and Chiwetel Ejoifor.
There is no doubt Lupita Nyong’o has already earned her rightful place amongst the stars in Hollywood. Previous recipients of the New Hollywood Award included big time Hollywood actors and actresses, among them Robert Pattinson, Gabourey Sidibe, Jennifer Lawrence, Felicity Jones and Quvenzhane Wallis.
Recently, film critics are predicting that Ms. Nyong’o’s performance in 12 Years a Slave could win her an Oscars in 2014 for Best Supporting Actress up against major contenders Ophrah Winfrey and Julia Roberts.
As if that were not enough, Ms. Nyong’o’s movie 12 Years a Slave recently brought home the bacon when they bagged the People’s Choice Award at the concluded Toronto Film Festival.
