Genevieve Nnaji, One Of The Best Nigerian Actresses
Genevieve Nnaji is a very talented Nigerian actress and singer, who was born in Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria. However, she grew up in Lagos, and was raised in a middle class family. Her father was an engineer, while her mum was a nursery teacher. She studied at the University of Lagos, and at the same time she started auditioning for acting jobs in Nollywood.
She started off as a child actress, in the soap opera ‘Ripples’, when she was only 8! At 19 she played in the Nigerian film ‘Most Wanted’, and moved on to more projects, such as ‘Last PArty’, ‘ Mark of the Beast’, ‘Ijele’ and the award-winning ‘Ije: The Journey’. Overall, she has starred in over 80 Nollywod movies!
She’s one of the best paid actresses in Nollywood, and Oprah once referred to her as ‘the Julia Roberts of Africa’! She has been awarded with the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a LEading Role in 2005, and has signed a recording contract with EKB Records. Having participated in various commercials, Nnaji became the ‘Face of Lux’ in Nigeria.
But even though she is so successful and powerful, she has a kind, soft heart; back in 2008, Nnaji launched a clothing line named ‘St. Genevieve’, that donates its profits to charity.
