– Alux Catches Up With The First Mr. Africa International Winner, Adonis O’Holi –
The Travelers Digest, an Hong-Kong based online travel magazine that provides articles and travel guides on destinations around the world, released its annual list of cities with the world’s most handsome men. On that list was Freetown, Sierra Leone featuring the first Mr. Africa International winner, Adonis O’Holi. Social media was all a flutter, so ALUX took the opportunity to chat with the London born don to get his take on all the excitement and get to know him a little better.
Amida: The Travelers Digest article, I’m sure by now you’ve seen it, yes? Where were you when you heard of it and what did you think about it? Are you aware that you made many a Sierra Leonean man proud today? Your photo next to Sierra Leone’s #6 ranking was quite inspiring.
Adonis: The first that I heard of it was by you actually, It seems the more and the harder I work, the more I seem to pop up in random places around the world. It is always nice to have people, especially your own people proud of you, but my work hasn’t even begun yet, I’m still in process of getting people ready for it
Amida: What do you love the most about Freetown?
Adonis: Freetown is where my mama was from, she was a Kennedy-Macfoy by name and the name carries a lot of pride. However, I researched the history and meaning of the place, and its name really does give great indication of its meaning in history, strength and survival in liberation.
Amida: Describe the greatest adventure you have ever been on.
Adonis: The greatest adventure I’ve been on was being stranded in Trinidad, Port of Spain for 3 weeks, (21 days) and 19 murders upon my doorstep. I was there to do football tryouts, and I even managed to miss that! But I survived!
Amida: What defines a sexy woman according to you?
Adonis: A sexy woman to me is a woman that is intelligent, knows herself, having overcome obstacles and is confident in who she is and who she wants to be. Obviously if she kicks it in the gym and is healthy then that appeals too, that’s a cake with a cherry.
Amida: Five favorite books?
Adonis: The Bible (which saved my life), The Alchemist, The Colour Purple, both auto biographies from Pele and Maradona.
Amida: If you could go on a date with your favorite actress, where would you take her?
Adonis: The same place that I would take any girl that I really liked, ‘My Camden Town’, I say ‘my’ because going with me, it’ll be different than with anyone else in the world.
Amida: If you were to pick the hottest place to go on vacation anywhere on the continent of Africa where would it be?
Adonis: It is such a diverse place, with its beauty endless because of the different vibes and sceneries in different places… I would want to go all over! In fact I see Africa as one big great land, and I think the sooner all Africans see it that way, the sooner elephants will be freed from ants.
Amida: If you could have any car in the world, what would it be?
Adonis: I like the Mini Cooper, a black one of course.
Amida: Are you close with your mother?
Adonis: Always and forever, though she lives in heaven now, she still looks after me… she is a lioness.
Amida: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Adonis: I see myself having a great influence on the world if God wills it, I will still be here.
