We really fell in love with AAKS‘ handbag collection; the bold, exuberant color combinations, the bags’ designs, which seem to be kind of a cross between traditional weaving and modern aesthetics, and finally the ethical and sustainable modus operandi of Akosua Afriyie-Kumi’s company, have helped AAKS become one of the most interesting and fascinating emerging brands worldwide!
Akosua Afriyie-Kumi, the founder and creative director of AAKS, is a Ghanaian native who has studied at Kingston University London, and has worked in the fashion industry field for quite a while now. She started out as a fashion designer, then became co-owner of another fashion brand, and finally she created her own brand, AAKS.
The brand is all about unique designs that tell different stories, with great attention to detail, a passion for great quality and a solid sense of identity. The goal of the collection is to introduce the art of Ghana’s female weavers to the world, to create demand for their handicrafts, and to provide female artisans with jobs that can help them earn a sustainable income.
